ACT Test Preparation

The ACT is a standardized test used for college admissions that assesses students’ readiness for college level work. The Enhanced ACT has three main sections: English, Math, and Reading. There are also two optional sections: Science and Writing. The new Enhanced ACT is shorter and gives more time.

50 Questions- 35 minutes

English Section

  • Shorter passages

45 Questions-50 minutes

Math Section

  • Four answer choices per question
  • Emphasis on advanced mathematical concepts

36 Questions-40 minutes

Reading Section

  • Additional time per question in the Enhanced ACT
  • Passages are shorter with the Enhanced ACT
  • Nine field test questions included (do not count toward score)
  •  Passage order may be changed to prevent identification of the items that are not scored

Science Section Optional

  • Focuses on data interpretation and scientific reasoning

There is a built-in calculator for the digital ACT. Students must bring their own approved calculator for the paper-based ACT.

Fair Assessment

Scoring

The ACT score ranges from 1-36 for each section. The composite score now for the Enhanced ACT will be calculated from only three sections: Reading, Math and English. The Science section and Writing are optional.
